Christopher Columbus Lodge # 216 Library Donation Event

Updated: Oct 28, 2019

For the eighth consecutive year, the Christopher Columbus Lodge of Brockton made a donation to the Brockton Public Library for the purchase of Italian themed literature and video material for all who belong to the Brockton Public Library or Old Colony Library Network to borrow. We are proud of the growing selection of Italian fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, and films on DVD that are ready to be borrowed.

A reception was held in November in the Dr. John Lingos Auditorium at the Brockton Library. There was a display for viewing of some of the literature that was purchased. Lodge Members and friends attended the reception and enjoyed a delicious assortment of Italian and American pastry that was graciously provided by the Library. Paula Jones, Director of Adult Services, chose many of the titles that Lodge Member, Michael Lombardo thoroughly researched and suggested would be appropriate for this year’s collection.

A lovely plate was placed on the inside cover of each book indicating that it was donated by the Christopher Columbus Lodge and the year it was donated.

This year’s collection includes: My American Dream: A Life of Love, Family, and Food by Lidia Matticchio Bastianich; Sicily: Three Thousand Years of Human History by Sandra Benjamin; Forty Days in Italy Con La Mia Famiglia: How to Research Your Italian Roots & Travel to Italy on Your Own Terms by Anthony Fasano; Caesar’s Wives: Sex, Power, and Politics in the Roman Empire by Annelise Freisenbruch; In the Name of the Mother: Italian Americans, African Americans, and Modernity from Booker T. Washington to Bruce Springsteen by Samuele F.S. Pardini; and Rope and Soap: Lynchings of Italians in the United States by Patrizia Salvetti.

As a Lodge, we are privileged to make this donation to the Library each year through our Charitable & Education Trust as we continue to be proud of our Italian Heritage as well as sharing with the community great literature about Italian culture, recipes, heroes and heroines, and heartwarming stories about our families and ancestors, as well as viewing the great films by Italian producers and Italian actors.
